Sci-fi, comic, fantasy, Japanime, manga and music fans alike all convened at the Jacob Javits Center for a four day festival of the literary and media arts. Knowing the high traffic and danger of the congestion, organizers limited the sales of tickets. Within a few months (which may be even less since I wasn’t checking,) the weekend badges for NYCC was already sold out with saturday only badges following suit. Though sunday tickets were still available a few weeks before the con, it was certainly also sold out when the week of rolled around.

This year more than ever really felt like NYCC was a four day convention. The first day already boasted a busy show room that is usually seen on friday afternoons. The number of fans packed into the panel rooms throughout the weekend is only evident that though the organizers had made some headway into preventing chaos, chaos will still undoubtably occur with the high number of fans and small size of rooms. Change is still needed, but let’s through the con first!

NYCC 2013 – inaugural Daisuki Q&A

The moderator is Robert Napton with the PR director, Maruyama Eri. The intro trailer for Daisuki was shown showcasing series that Daisuki are streaming including Bakemonogatari, Prince of Tennis, Madoka Magica, Lupin III, Sword Art Online, Silver Spoon and Gundam amongst others.

NYCC 2013 – Aniplex Q&A

Marketing Specialist EJ Rivera first grabbed a pic of the room with a panorama shot. Than the Aniplex trailer which highlighted the many series in their catalogue was shown.

Their current streaming lineup with Daisuki was noted beginning with the second season of Monogatari with new episodes every saturday followed by the second season of Valvrave the Liberator and and the second season of Magi with new episodes every sunday.

NYCC 2013 – Kodansha Comics Q&A

The panel opened with the Japanese comics trailer for Shingeki no Kyoujin aka. Attack on Titan. “You might not have heard of it….” *audience laughs* Kodansha has sold over 500,000 in print which is astounding in the English manga market. “Spread the love for giants eating humans!” For the rest of the year, Kodansha will be releasing a volume each month until we’re caught up in Japan. Vol. 8 will be released 10/29, vol. 9 on 11/26, vol. 10 on 12/31 and vol. 11 on 1/28. Volume 8 is also available at the Kodansha booth. It is also where the anime ends so there will be new material afterwards.

NYCC 2013 – Sunrise Q&A

Moderator Robert Napton provided a brief background of Sunrise. It was founded in 1972. Currently, it’s part of the Namco Bandai group and is comprised by 12 independent studios which work on various projects, including Cowboy Bebop, Mobile Suit Gundam, Tiger and Bunny amongst others. The other panelists are the Managing Director Sasaki Shin and Hagino Akane, the Manager of International Sales.
